April’s Story

My journey into counseling started in seventh grade when I saw a flyer for EMU’s Master of Arts in Counseling program—a dream that took years to fulfill. Life’s twists, including marriage, parenting, and pastoring, have shaped my experience, but the birth of my second child marked a significant turning point. When my instincts were overlooked, I sought out research, advocacy, and persistence, eventually realizing how the right support could transform lives.

Divorce led to another transformation, prompting me to specialize in attachment therapy at Secure Child and regain my confidence in parenting. As I sought resources for parents of children with disabilities, I noticed a gap. This realization planted the seed for Adagio House, a space where caregivers could find the support I had longed for. I launched Adagio House with a dedicated team, and by 2020, our work had significantly expanded, even as the pandemic intensified the need for connection and mental health support.

Today, Adagio House continues to grow, partnering with organizations to support caregivers and families navigating disabilities and trauma. I believe transformation comes through both love and suffering and that beauty can emerge even from life’s hardest moments. Adagio House exists to help caregivers thrive because no one should walk this path alone. Will you join us?
